The following text is from the CEO of the Sea Cadets, Guy Holloway, written in support of the Lottery Fund Application:
To whom it may concern,
I am pleased to write on behalf of Sea Cadets in support of the HMS Bronington
Preservation Trust’s full application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
As the national youth charity delivering Sea Cadets across the UK, we are deeply
committed to ensuring that young people connect with, understand, and are inspired by
our nation’s rich maritime heritage. The restoration of HMS BRONINGTON, an iconic
Royal Navy Minehunter of the TON Class and a vessel of significant historic value,
represents a remarkable opportunity to bring to life an important chapter of the Royal
Navy’s Cold War era innovations.
The Sea Cadets appreciate the great STEM learning potential of HMS BRONINGTON,
and we value the opportunity of working with the HMS Bronington Preservation Trust
over the long term. The ground-breaking British mine warfare technical innovations
(SONAR, precise navigation and propulsion, early stealth design, and other
advancements) deployed on this historic ship during the Cold War years will be an
inspiring learning resource for our 14,000 young people, aged 9-17 across the country.
Our organisation has a proud and longstanding link with Royal Navy Mine
Countermeasure Vessels, including former TON Class ships used for engineering and
maritime training. We see considerable potential for HMS BRONINGTON to complement
and strengthen our national STEM learning programme, helping cadets across the UK to
explore science, technology, engineering, and naval innovation through direct interaction
with a historic and authentically preserved platform.
We commend the HMS Bronington Preservation Trust for its commitment and progress
to date. Sea Cadets is pleased to support this application and looks forward to continued
collaboration as the project develops.
Yours sincerely,
Guy Holloway
Chief Executive Officer
